 So I made one.

My Sister Whines

The special title is because my sister reminds me how long it's been since I last posted. I've been working on a baby gift for the past month along with my bear.

 The lamb knit up pretty quick.

But who knew granny squares took so long.

It's already to go now though.

 I caught the girls playing king of the mountain or tippy turtles, whatever you'd like to call it.

Often I'll walk in the room to a huge splash as they see me and scramble back into the water, silly turtles!

Large Crocheted Ball

I've made crocheted balls and hacky sacks in the past. They often come out more like cylinders.

I was asked to make a larger ball more the size of a softball. With this size the cylinder becomes more obvious!

Every pattern out there gives the regular circle increments when making a sphere, I knew there must be some way to add curve to the ends!

Well here's what I learned when making a larger ball...

Start with a circle of 6, I like a magic circle because you can close the hole in the middle very tight. Begin your circle as usual, first row 2 sc in every stitch, second row 1 sc, 2 sc and so on until you've come to row 4 or 5(this will depend on how big your ball will be, I was using thin yarn). After finishing row 4 or 5, next row will be 1 sc in every stitch. Next row continue expanding for your circle. Next row 1 sc in every stitch. Next row continue expanding for your circle.

Basically your last 2 expansion rows should have 1 sc rows between them. We now have roundness!

Crocheted and Felted Flower Pin Tutorial

A while back I went to town crocheting flowers for appliqués. I am now sick of looking at them, I needed to make them useful items.

I had an idea, here we go, I'll take you through it. I sewed the little one on top of the big one at the center.

They don't have to be the same color, just complimentary.

Now you'll need your needle felting wool. Pick a bright complimentary color for a center.

Get poking...

stick to the center...

you can leave it a bit fuzzy, felt it tight, large, small. I choose what looks best as I go.

Then I grab a pin back and use any remaining yarn to sew in on. You can also use thread if there's no extra yarn.

Tada!

Just Like Crochet

More of that beautiful hand dyed wool I traded for. This is just 1 skein of beauty!

Poncho Capelet

It's crocheted in a beautiful 1 ply hand dyed wool I traded for. I wanted to use the yarn for myself but I can't wear wool against my skin. A large neck opening was in order so I can wear a long sleeved, high necked shirt underneath without wool irritation. I love it!

It Doesn't Get Better Than This

My 7 year old daughter loves her chapstick necklace!  She sometimes gets very chapped lips from licking them (a nervous tick) but never would be able to remember to use the chapstick we would send with her, in her backpack or pocket.  Having it conveniently hanging from around her neck made it much easier for her to remember.  Not to mention the "cool" factor of having a beautiful, one-of-a-kind necklace that none of the other little girls have.

After almost a year of hard, daily use she has finally just about worn her first necklace out and is very much looking forward to receiving her new necklaces that you custom made to her color requests.  That is very "cool" to me!  Thank you for a wonderful product that has truly made a positive difference in my daughter's quality of life.

This wonderful dad contacted me almost a year later and said it's time for a new lip balm holder. When I asked for his daughter's favorite colors this is what I got: artwork! This makes it all worth doing.

These are going in the mail tomorrow.

Such A Good Sister

 My job is to make my sister happy with crochet.

I'm not sure how I acquired this job.

What I'm pleased about with this project is I was able to put a back on the owl so you can't see his guts!
