Run Robin Run

The coil tubing I purchased doesn't have to be entirely hammered.

Simply hammer the ends for a different look.

I got to hold this baby in my hands today, what a sweetie!

The feral cats were too close this morning so I tried putting him out of the way. As you can see he had his own ideas, run robin run!

Robin Eggs

I'll be busy for the next couple days getting ready to entertain some friends on Tuesday. So I wanted to get this project posted before the start of the week.

I felted these last night and boy did I work hard getting them the same size! I'm very happy with the way she turned out.

My company on Tues. will include 3 kids, 9 - 14ish. I'm trying to think of fun things to do and include mom too!

Robin Day 3

Time to make legs. I thought about wire legs but today, soft legs were what I wanted. She sits in her nest on her eggs, that's all she needs. I wanted a certain color or color blend and I was happy to find out that you can indeed mix roving to obtain different colors. The colors on the left were blended to make the color on the right.

There are lots of ways to do this and you learn as you go. This was how I started out.

It's not easy needle felting little tubes.

But I got the first leg done.

This time I twisted the wool and held it in place with a pin. Then I needle felted and this worked great.

In the end I made 3 legs just to get a better match. Here's 2 done and ready to go.

I did a lot of research on robins. I tried to get the placement just right. I held the legs in place with pins and covered them with more white.

3 robins egg blue eggs to come!

Remembering Peep Peep

I don't recommend that you become the baby bird rescuer in your neighborhood but every once in while it works out. Trust me, I put a lot of work into this little one. I had to feed him Alpo off my finger! This was years ago, I was still in high school.

Everyday I watch the robins in my neighborhood and think of him. I'll always have a soft spot for robins. Look how young my leg looks! That day he was learning how to find worms.

This is the little peepster we found a couple years back, on the ground, in our heavily populated feral cat community. We put him up in a box and his mom found him.

These are the baby squirrels my son found when my neighbor had the tree trimmers out. You don't want to know how far they fell! We called a squirrel rescue and they told us how to get them through the night. Next morning we put them up in the same tree for their mother to find. She was a bit dim so I put pecans all around them. That did the trick. I've lost many baby birds trying to save them, it's not foolproof. You always want to let their parents care for them if they're around. Every once in a while we can help out!
