Hedgehog Hair

I've been asked to make an albino hedgehog as a playmate for another hedgehog I made with the spiky mohair. We had considered lightening the mohair but the Teddy Talk forum did not recommend it. That meant needle felting! Once I figured out how I might try this I remembered to take pictures. I start with a layer of cream llama fiber. Use long pulled strands.

Then some darker on top.

I put a thin strip on glue which I will needle felt into. This will grab and hold the fiber.

I lay a section of fiber down and felt along the middle where the glue is.

Felting into the glue can make your needle sticky, have a wet rag to wipe it off on.

one strip done across the back.

Lay the fiber down towards the back.

And felt along this edge again.

Here are all the lovely layers of cream and tan.

Here's part of albino hedgehogs coat done.

Stay tuned!

  1. I would have never thought about using a strip of glue. Thanks for that info.
